Graduate forward Adam Dawe has left UConn to sign in the ECHL, a source confirmed to the UConn Hockey Hub. ECHL Week was the first to report the news. Dawe informed the team of his decision early last week, which is why he wasn’t included in the pregame introductions during the opener at Toscano Family Ice Forum on Saturday.
While his decision to leave may have been unexpected, Dawe left UConn on good terms with the team. It’s also understandable.
Dawe transferred to the Huskies this past offseason from Maine. The team hoped he’d bounce back with a stronger supporting cast after playing for a bad Black Bears team the last two years but that never materialized. Dawe totaled just one goal and no assists in 16 games. He was a healthy scratch for the last four games and six of the last seven after being passed by Ryan Tattle and Huston Karpman on the depth chart.
Now, Dawe will join the Newfoundland Growlers — a “hometown” team for the Gander, Newfoundland native.
