"There was no panic at all": UConn mounts two comebacks in all-timer vs. Providence
The Huskies erased a three-goal deficit early in the game and scored a pair of goals with the goalie pulled to pull off one of the craziest results in the program's Hockey East history.
All season long, UConn has proven to be a resilient squad. But in the second game of the weekend series against Providence, the Huskies took it to a new level. They simply refused to die.
Go down 3-0 in the first period? No problem. They’ll score three unanswered to tie it one period later. Give up a goal a minute after pulling even? That won’t shake UConn. It’ll just answer back in a flash. Hand the fifth-best power play in the nation a five-minute advantage and give up two goals on it in the third period? That’s fine. The Huskies will just score twice in the final three minutes with the goalie on the bench to send it to overtime.
On Saturday night, UConn men’s hockey and Providence played an all-timer that saw the Huskies mount two comebacks and score a game-tying goal with 4.8 seconds left to earn a tie — and with it, an extra point towards the Hockey East standings with a shootout victory.
“If there was one word that would describe this game, it’s resiliency,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh said postgame. “There really wasn't any panic the entire time.”
